Dental Health Care Problems
Dental health care is very important as it can have long-term consequences for your general well-being. Here is a list of the most common dental problems:
Halitosis (Bad Breath)
Halitosis is a medical term for bad breath, – which is a problem for many people these days. According to the statistics, 85% of patients with bad breath also have dental problems likely to be the cause. The most common conditions that can affect your breath include: tongue bacteria, gum disease, dry mouth, and oral cancer and dry mouth can be blamed for it. If you suffer from this condition, using chewing gum or mouthwash will not cure the condition, it will just cover it for several minutes. It’s recommended to visit your dentist and go through some treatment to get rid of any dental problems you have.
Tooth Cavities
Tooth decay (commonly referred to as cavities) is the second most “popular” condition in the United States, right after the common cold. This disease occurs due to the presence of acids , whichthat affect the enamel of our teeth day after day, leading to the progression of the disease and the destruction of other layers (demineralization). Things you can do to prevent this condition include: flossing regularly, brushing your teeth at least twice a day, and rinsing your mouth with some water after eating or drinking, whether it’s a full meal or a snack. Excluding the foods that are potentially dangerous is also a good idea.
Periodontitis
Periodontitis is also known as gum disease and has been reported to be linked with stroke and heart disease. It can also lead to the loss of teeth. Gum disease actually includes two stages: gingivitis and periodontitis, and often leads to loose teeth. It’s very important to prevent gum disease, as its treatment takes a lot of time and effort. Besides, if you are neglecting this condition, you may develop heart disease.
Oral Cancer
Oral cancer is a very serious illness that affects and kills many people. According to the statistics, every hour somebody dies because of oral cancer in the United States. It’s especially sad considering that, if the person seeks dental help, this disease (which also pertains to the mouth, lips or throat) can be cured, and the percentage of success if very high. Every year more than 300,000 people worldwide are diagnosed with oral cancer.
Mouth Sores
Mouth sores can be very bothersome and unpleasant if not treated. Any mouth sores are supposed to heal in two weeks maximum, if they are cold sores, canker sores, fever blisters or ulcers. If your mouth sore is present after this period, you need to talk to your doctor.
Dental Erosion
Dental erosion has to do with the effects of acid, which attacks the enamel and destroys it. The main symptoms of dental erosion are: teeth sensitivity and cracking. This condition is very bad for your teeth, but it can be prevented if diagnosed early enough and if you maintain dental hygiene.
Sensitive Teeth
Millions of people have overly sensitive teeth, which means they feel pain when inhaling cold air, eating something sweet, cold or hot, brushing teeth and even flossing them. However, this condition is easily treated (by a proper dental health care and certain procedure), so there is no need to suffer – just make sure you pay your dentist a visit and describe the problem.
